ABOUT AARAMBH

Aarambh is an outreach program conducted by IEEE MANIT Students’ Branch with an intrinsic aim to promote science not as a subject but as a part of day to day life and career interest to the underprivileged sections of society. Needless to justify, children need to realize the importance of scientific point of view in their school days only, so that as they grow up, they can have a rational perspective and live a healthy and prosperous lives. The idea is to popularize science as a way to understand life and to feel the things happening around by reaching children from deprived communities, who are getting elementary education in some government or convent schools with basic problems such as lack of quality teacher, improper infrastructure, lack of guidance, inadequate atmosphere.

WHO WE ARE?

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers endeavours to promote awareness among students on the opportunities that exist in the endless world of science. An outreach program to promote elementary science education among school students

WHAT WE DO?

IEEE members make innovative projects to teach basic science in everyday life concepts with waste materials and scratch which could be easily available in any household. Easy to make nature and low cost make the projects enthralling and involving. The topics are selected from their syllabus to make the session worthy for students.

WHAT'S OUR GOAL?

Striving to accomplish this goal the IEEE MANIT Students’ Branch organizes AARAMBH every year. AARAMBH is a social educational initiative that aspires to create a conducive learning environment for underprivileged students who are deprived of quality education.

ABOUT AARAMBH 16

AARAMBH is a social educational initiative that aspires to create a conducive learning environment for underprivileged students who are deprived of quality education. The idea is to popularize science as a way to understand life and to feel the things happening around by reaching children from different communities. With the sole motive of promoting science as an important tool, IEEE MANIT organizes AARAMBH every year in schools like Sarojini Naidu School Kamla Nehru School, School for Excellence, etc.

AARAMBH has attained new heights by receiving Darrel Chong Students Activity Award – Gold and got published in the “The IEEE Region Ten Newsletter”. This year, 14 IEEE members tried to acquaint over 200 young brains with some basic principles of science through project demonstrations. Economical and enthralling demonstrations were based on principles like Newton’s third law of motion, Total internal reflection, Diffraction, Magnetism and Bernoulli’s principle. Apart from demonstrating the projects, the team members also showed the students how they could make these projects themselves.

Newton’s third law of motion was illustrated using a balloon car. The students were overjoyed to learn to make a compass using easily available articles like ice-cream stick, magnets etc. The concepts of optics were introduced to students through experiments involving total internal reflection and diffraction. The fundamental of Bernoulli’s principle was also explained to the children through a simple demonstration using paper cups, balloons, straws etc.

IEEE MANIT Student Members, by involving in this novel activity render their technical skills and creativity to help children by interacting with them, teaching them and inspiring them. IEEE members make innovative projects to teach basic science in everyday life concepts with waste materials and scratch which could be easily available in any household. Easy to make nature, low cost and relation with day to day happenings make the projects innovative and involving. The topics are selected from their syllabus to make the session worthy for students. An inspiring guidance and career counselling session is also conducted. It throws light on the numerous career opportunities available in the endless world of science and also motivates them to set their goal and strive to achieve it. This year, a special session was conducted for blind students to prove that “Everyone has right to education”.

ABOUT AARAMBH 15

Continuing their efforts for the betterment of the society, the IEEE Students Branch of MANIT organized AARAMBH-2015. AARAMBH is the social educational initiative undertaken by the students of MANIT under the auspices of IEEE MANIT Students' branch. The essence of Aarambh is to foster knowledge sharing among underprivileged students who are deprived of quality education.

AARAMBH was conducted on 21st and 22nd August in Kamla Nehru Girls' S.S School and on 24th August in Sarojini Naidu Girls' School. Over 100 students were addressed by 15 IEEE members with the objective of imparting knowledge about basic science principles. The members demonstrated inexpensive out-of-box exhibits which included homopolar motor, security system, reflection phenomena, manual bot and climbing butterfly.

These innovative teaching aids were made keeping in mind their easy to make nature, low cost and relation with day to day happenings. The models were selected keeping in mind the syllabus of the students and their interests so that the session becomes fruitful and interactive involving maximum student participation. This was followed by a stimulating career counselling session to motivate young minds to get accelerated towards their goal and getting them acquainted with the numerous career opportunities existing in the field of science.

This year, AARAMBH was conducted on 1st and 2nd September in KAMLA NEHRU HIGHER SECONDARY GIRLS SCHOOL and SHASHKIYA NUTAN MADHYAMIK VIDHALAYA.They demonstrated four projects-Simple DC Motor, Magnetic effect of Solenoid, Wave formation with pendulum of different lengths and Pop-pop boat covering basic principles of science like inertia, magnetic effect of current, buoyancy etc. These projects were made using simple household materials with each project costing less than Rs 200. Apart from demonstrating the projects, the team members also showed the students how they could make these projects themselves.

This was followed by a career counselling session in which the team members interacted with the students and answered their queries on how to pursue the career of their choice.
